piratedani…I usually have an open mind and take most people on face value, but when I learn later from reliable sources that they are users and wasters it starts to grate. On the one hand he can be very affable and pleasant and on the other he can be a twat! Just like any normal member of society really! Like I say…it takes all sorts! x.

Once we went in on a day shift and she actually said ‘I didn’t call this time!’ when a ‘flatmate’ in the mental health share house assaulted her.

Some people just love the attention, and while I am by no means making light of serious mental health issues which, in Australia at least are appallingly handled by the Gov’t health system, these people are a definite drain on the emergency health system.

Asking around I found out that he had been in the system for many years…and knew how to work it. I would say that just because they cant define his disorder does not mean he is okay. He had basically ‘institutionalized’ himself as a lifestyle choice. All efforts at integrating him back into society via work, relationships etc had failed because he wanted that safety net and for everything to be done for him. Speaking to him on another occasion I mentioned that with all his experience of the system he should get a job in mental health services…his reply: ‘I know, but then I wouldnt get the perks would I?’
Strange people, strange world.
