All 4 of my grandparents died of smoking related diseases. My granny died at the relatively young age of 67, but looking at photos of her towards the end of her life she looked like she was in her 90s, I kid you not. Smoking is a disgusting habit, there isn’t a single reason why I would be tempted to ever light up! I don’t drink either – funny for a 19 year old!

I knew a woman, the wife of a mate down the pub, who would always use her ventolin asthma inhaler prior to lighting up a cig.

When I asked her why she did this expecting an answer along the lines of “its preventative”, she said that she got a better taste of the tobacco!

Initially I thought she was being sarcastic or humerous…but she was serious!

Could you not say “Well done Sir, I can see you are doing a splendid job of killing yourself, keep up the good work and we will pop back in a week or two to certify your death” Or is that the sort of comment that results in a complaint?
I bet the stink of stale fag ash stayed with you for the rest of the shift. Yuk.
